Centre Proposes Anti-Cheating Legislation and Exam Reforms Amid National Education Safety Drive

In response to nationwide calls for stricter safeguards in competitive entrance examinations, the Central Government has introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill alongside a specialized exam reform task force. The legislative and administrative overhaul follows high-level policy deliberation aimed at eliminating paper leaks, technological cheating, and administrative malpractices across nationwide public assessment bodies. Designed to restore public confidence in recruitment and academic selection systems, the newly proposed legal framework imposes strict penal measures—including non-bailable offences, heavy monetary fines, and long-term disqualification—against organized cartels, coaching centers, and complicit officials found interfering with evaluation standards. Under the newly designated Ministry leadership, the government is introducing comprehensive institutional reforms, such as digitized security protocols, biometric verification at examination centers, and centralized oversight mechanisms to ensure tamper-proof logistics. Educational authorities and youth organizations across multiple states have actively debated these reform measures, emphasizing the need for equitable access, fast-track judicial oversight, and transparent grievance redressal for lakhs of students nationwide. Furthermore, state governments and higher education bodies are aligning their local frameworks with the central guidelines to ensure standardized security during major recruitment drives and state-level entrance tests. As the draft legislation moves through parliamentary deliberation, policymakers stress that securing academic integrity is critical not only for safeguarding the aspirations of young job seekers and students but also for maintaining national standards in higher education and civil service recruitment.
