Prime Minister Modi Strengthens Strategic Ties in the Netherlands

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amsterdam today for the second leg of his five-nation European tour, focusing on high-tech collaboration. This visit marks a significant milestone in the India-EU Free Trade Agreement discussions, which have recently gained momentum across the continent. Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister was welcomed by top Dutch officials and members of the Indian diaspora, highlighting the deep cultural and economic ties between the two nations. The agenda for this two-day visit is packed with high-level meetings, including talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and a formal audience with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. Key sectors on the table for discussion include semiconductors, where India seeks to leverage Dutch expertise in lithography, as well as water management and clean energy initiatives. India is particularly interested in the Netherlands’ advanced systems for flood control and sustainable agriculture, aiming to implement similar technology in its own vulnerable coastal regions. Additionally, a major community program is scheduled for Saturday morning, where the Prime Minister will address the largest Indian diaspora in mainland Europe. This visit follows a productive stop in the UAE, where billions in investments were secured, setting a high bar for the European leg of the tour. Government officials state that the primary goal is to secure long-term partnerships in advanced technology and maritime security. As the world pivots toward AI-integrated governance, the collaboration on supercomputing clusters and semiconductor manufacturing is seen as a cornerstone of India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision for the coming decades.
